01/21- Assistant Dean Belinda Dantley, alongside with her colleague at American University Washington School of Law released a report from a survey of diversity, equity, and inclusion professionals at law schools across the nation. Several Minnesota Law students joined college and workers from the James H. Binger Center for New Americans to supply legal help to Afghan refugees on the Fort McCoy navy base in Wisconsin late last month. The team helped the refugees understand the complicated and sometimes difficult U.S. immigration system, put together their asylum or particular immigrant visa applications, and get connected to a nationwide network of legal professionals. Reuters reports that “several massive U.S. law firms are once again postponing workplace return dates because the COVID-19 Omicron variant continues to shake up their plans.” Legaltech News stories that “fierce competition for attorneys has pushed some law firms to add algorithm-based assessments into their hiring and retention protocols.” Law.com International reports that “law companies in Australia have pushed again plans to deliver more workers back to the workplace and are requiring those who do go in to put on masks…the change in plans follows a surge in COVID-19 cases that hit Sydney and Melbourne in January.”
